The PGI Heraklion zone comprises the homonymous district in Crete’s central eastern part. With three wine PDO zones (Archanes, Dafnes and Peza), Heraklion is Crete’s winegrowing area par excellence as well as one of Greece’s most significant ones. The systematic efforts by Heraklion winegrowers maintain and showcase the native Cretan varieties Vidiano, Vilana, Daphne, Kotsifali, Liatiko, Thrapsathiri and Plyto.
