The viticultural zone of Metsovo is situated in the northeastern area of Epirus at altitude of 900m and it is the most mountainous in Greece. The indigenous local grape varietal Vlahiko is cultivated among the international varieties Gewürztraminer, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Here in Metsovo, was first planted in Greece the grape Cabernet Sauvignon, and still today it is the dominant variety. The vineyards are mainly found on sunny, steeply inclined slopes whose soil is sandy loam with good drainage. The vines are entirely planted in linear fashion.
